(no subject)

Man, I remember back in the day when shitty LJ redesigns actually affected my life, actually bothered me enough to matter.

Good times.

Do I somehow not have the new comment interface on my account? How can I see what it looks like?

If you have custom comment pages enabled on your LJ, you are spared the horror until you run into someone's LJ that disabled that feature. Or you can go see it right here on the [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases post, where there are 4000+ comments asking for the reinstatement of subject lines in comments.

Between no more subject lines in comments, the new inability to select an icon by keywords if a given icon had more than one set of keywords, the general trend towards inaccessibility and inconvenience (particularly in mobile-device browsers), the ridiculous introduction of hotkeys (that overlap existing functionality on Macs!) and the dot-matrix stripiness in a freaking GRADIENT fugliness ... just wow.

Ugh.

The actual format, I don't mind, but the lack of subject lines and the lack of alphabetical order to my icons (like others on that thread have said, I know what my icons are by name, I don't need to see them) are pretty epic fails.

Then again, I hardly ever use LJ anymore, so... *shrug* I'll never understand why people always think that they should redesign something that people like just because it's "time" for a change, but hey, it's their business loss as more and more people switch over to DW...

What do you mean by this? I'm not seeing any stripiness, I don't think.

Right at the top of the comments section, where the comment pagination is, there's a gradient from blue to white that looks stripey in Chrome for WinXP, 7-8 stripes depending on whether or not you count the bottom white as a stripe. Haven't had a chance to check in other browsers.

Ah okay. I just checked in Firefox and Chrome for Win7, and the gradient looks smooth (no stripes). Maybe it's a WinXP thing? Or an older version of Chrome?

Honestly, if I could figure out a way to get new entries emailed to me from the few LJs I'm still following from friends entrenched there, I wouldn't even bother logging in anymore. Authenticated RSS is hrad, though. Sigh.

Actually, I wonder if there are good iPhone RSS readers that can deal with authentication and update quickly. (I'd probably want a separate one specifically for said LJ friends rather than trying to fold everything into GReader which sucks at authentication anyway. Not that I'm not vaguely looking for a replacement for that too these days. Yeesh.

It'll be painful when I go to comment, but really, the most painful thing is how it's a ghost town compared to the good old days, and a small redesign won't change that.

This.

I found this out when looking at my old LJ entries last night to remember the name of something I ran across in 2006. I saw all those postings in 2006. Wow! I thought I owed an apology when I hadn't posted in a month! The sad thing is that I actually feel like I had much better conversations and a better community with folks on LJ than on Twitter or Facebook where I feel like I'm just throwing sentences into a blackhole... Who would go back to a facebook post of 5 years ago to find links and names?! I don't even think you CAN go back that long on twitter.

PS. The worst feature is that your browser doesn't remember what you typed into the comment box when you go back and forth on pages

I wonder if they're aware that formerly-paid users can post using all their icons with the new, horrid interface they've built?

Oh, my bad... it shows you all the icons you've uploaded, then, if you use one you don't currently have access to, it says nothing and shows your default icon instead. Niiiiiiice.
