My secret hope is that Elena Kagan is confirmed to the Supreme Court and then immediately comes out of the closet as gay.

By the way, if you type "Elena Kagan" (no quotes) into Google and don't press enter, the first 5 suggestions for searches are "Elena Kagan husband", "Elena Kagan married", "Elena Kagan bio", "Elena Kagan solicitor general", and "Elena Kagan personal life". One of these things is not like the others...

(And for the record, she does not seem to be married, unsubstantiated rumors say she has a female partner, and a white house official denied that she's a lesbian, according to the Washington Post.)

So yes, she sets of my gaydar. Loudly. But seriously, there are semi-butch straight women all over the place, just look at Janet Reno. I feel bad for straight women who just happen to be tomboyish or powerful or have short hair and therefore get stereotyped as gay - not because gay is an insult but because they don't get to be seen for who they are. Ditto the feminine queer women like my partner who will never be taken seriously as queer. All that said, if she is in fact gay, it would indeed be fabulous if she came out after confirmation. It would be so cool to have the 4th (?) woman supreme court justice be a Jewish dyke! What do you know about her politics? I don't know anything, really. Off to google her...
