FTW is too close to WTF, and it is complicated by the fact that my parents use the phrase "Fut the Wuck" sometimes. So when I see FTW I have to translate in my head before I remember it's FTW.

What's the block?

The TV show Hollywood Squares! If you picked a square in an attempt to win 3-in-a-row, you'd say "[Celeb name] for the win", and if you picked a square in an attempt to keep the other person from getting 3-in-a-row, you said "[Celeb name] for the block"! I'm convinced that's where "For the win" came from, whether anyone believes me or not.
