actually, I would really have liked that, as I didnt recognize a good number of those tapes and would like to learn more. Maybe you should teach a course at the community college and fall in love with one your students who will, of course, understand the glory of adhesives

That's because you live with a health care professional, and therefore probably have a lot laying around the house. Trust me, if it were gaff tape there instead, you'd never touch the medical stuff unless you were making a band-aid.

One worth mentioning is friction tape. It is a fabric tape. The one time I saw it, it was black and about 3/4" wide. It is slightly adhesive, but tends to stick to only itself (under its own power). Sort of the anti-Teflon. It's great for bundling things together, or as a substitute for electrical tape.

cool! I've always had the problem that the adhesive on electrical tape dosent really do such an enduring job of sticking to the tape, and so tends to get all over things and covered with dirt. Blech. So when are you going to publish this online compendium, or Tape-ionary, as it may be called?

Fabric tape, about a centimeter wide. Identical to gaff tape, except for the color and the width, and is therefore really sticky but removable and mostly without residue. Spike tape is typically made in bright, fluorescent-style colors, and is primarily used to mark areas on a theater's stage to aid the stage crew in placing set pieces or to aid actors in placing themselves.

Sara (and Pato too), you have clearly never used gaff tape. Aside from the tremendous price difference, duct tape is very much second fiddle. I know some people consider this sacrilege, but those people have obviously never used sweet, sweet gaff.
