Fest!

They've started to announce performers for this summer's Philly Folk Fest. Who's on the list so far? Only Arlo Guthrie, The Mammals, and Tempest, that's all. And other people I haven't heard of, but heavy on the Celtic.

Um, wow. There's no way I'm not going this year.

Weekend before Labor Day weekend every year; usually the last weekend in August. Apparently the 26th-28th this year.

Are you thinking of setting up a tent-city-like thing? If so, we should start chatting about it now... I'll probably do Food Committee again this year and I'd like to organize sleeping tents and a "common tent" area with lawn chairs for everyone.

I was actually thinking that, yes. I might have too many Fest friends at this point to want to impose them all on John. I'd have to think about what I actually want there, though. (i.e. as calm as John's, with as little smoking, and no offense, but as few Habos.) Don't know yet if I want to do this at all. I'll think about it.

Well, there will undoubtedly be Habos hanging around, but they have their own campsite (and we can tell them to set up their tents there). I'm also down with as little smoking as possible, even Nargila (hey, it's our campsite, damnit!). My only MANDATORY requirement is a steady supply of good beer and a cooler or two for it and other drinks/food, which I guess is up to me. Let's think about it.

Fine with me. I really have to figure out how long I'm going to be there. The question of days off from my job, which has been bugging me a lot more than you'd realize for the past 6 months, is starting to become germane.

(If, as seems likely, I'm going but not getting there until Thursday, then we'll need to find an early person to pitch our tents for us.)

As long as I can find time enough off to get there early, I can do the pitching and sitting early Thursday (staying in Wynnewood Wednesday night) or I can sign up for pre-Fest stuff, if I'm crazy enough. Or, as you say, we'll find some patsy friend to do it for us.

Yeah. He usually plays there every odd year, but he missed 2003 (as did I), and I didn't know him well enough to appreciate him in 2001. It'll be awesome.

Incidentally, if grad school things keep going the way they are, the Woman and I are probably going to end up somewhere that starts in mid-September. Which means we're there this year and the next 6 after fo' shure.

I got to see Arlo Guthrie at Falconridge and it was awesome. I'm going there again this year, but I don't know who is going to be there.

I need to give up on trying to convince you to come to Philly Fest, don't I? (Especially since it seems Ariel will miss it for the umpteenth straight year, though I should talk to him to make sure of that.)

Well, I think I'm going to be in Vermont this year when it is going on anyway...but maybe some day:)I thought about it last year, but I had to work.

And yes, Ariel will indeed be missing it this year because he will be in Albania doing his term of service with the Peace Corps. He leaves March 21st.
