memory

My memory is very strongly association-based. For example, right now, I was looking at my IRC window and listening to the radio that my mom has on downstairs. The reception on the radio faded out briefly.

I was instantly reminded of the LAST time that the reception faded out briefly on the radio that I was listening to that my mom had on downstairs. At that time, I was talking on IRC about gaming the system of support points on LiveJournal.

Is this normal?

(And when I started to write this entry, I was reminded of the last time I considered writing an entry about memory and association. But I can't remember if I actually did write an entry that time. So my memory is association-based, but bad? I guess?)

Actually, I'd say that's very normal, particularly when it's sounds associated with actions. For example, whenever I use my computer, I listen to mp3s and sometimes my playlist is quite small and I end up listening to the same few mp3s over and over again while doing some task. So, there are certain mp3s that constantly remind me of, for example, reading X-Men comics or checking /. or playing Civ III. Because I wasn't really paying attention to the music at the time, it stuck around in my head and associated itself with some activity - and now whenever I hear the music, that associated memory of the activity is recalled. So, no, it's not peculiar at all.

the new harvey pekar. Seriously, have you thought of writing stories about your life and submitting them to robert crumb or other alternative/indie artists to illustrate?
