In honor of Parenthood's renewal, my current TV watching:

Current shows, in approximate order of how much I like them
1. Parenthood
2. Sherlock
3. Arrested Development (yes, it counts as current, dammit)
4. NCIS (yeah, yeah)
5. Girls
6. House (got back in it to see the last half-season)
7. Suburgatory
8. New Girl
9. Modern Family (would be higher if Cam weren't so annoying this season)
10. Glee
11. Law & Order: SVU
Honorable mentions (shows I'm kind of halfheartedly following a bit): Happy Endings, Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23, Best Friends Forever

if you get the sundance channel (or the independent film channel, I always get those two confused), sometimes there are episodes of freaks and geeks on. Also, sometimes they show my so-called life. not that you need that since you own all of it, but just saying...

Sports Night is so good and so easy to get through, since it's only two seasons of half hour shows. Kevin and I have made it through the whole series twice and still watch an episode here and there.

Also, your TV preferences seem pretty close to mine (Parenthood! Friday Night Lights! House!), so I'm wondering what you think of The Wire. Everyone swears up and down that it's the best show ever, but I'm concerned that it might fall into the category of too depressing. (I don't mind serious television but I like my shows to have at least some balance.) Thoughts?

I rather like The Wire. I don't think it's the best show ever or anything. And it's a lot of work. Basically, I can't follow the first 2-4 episodes of any season, and by the middle of the season I wonder if continuing to watch is worth the payoff. By the last 4 episodes, there's nothing else I'd rather do than finish. And I'm not normally the sort of person who wants to watch more than one episode of something at a time. Finally, by the 4th season, I can follow things better early on, but I've also learned to always watch the "previously on"'s, read the descriptions, and maybe read Alan Sepinwall's episodes summaries.

But yeah, I'd definitely recommend it. Such great characters. Basically all lovable, all doing what they think is best.
