actualizing TV

I feel like I've finally actualized being the TV addict that part of me has always wanted to be. Here's what I'm watching these days:

Sherlock was a great show! Looking forward to the 2nd season.

Why did you not like Always Sunny? I hated it at first but eventually grew to like it. i find the writing very smart, and adore how they always get exactly what they deserve. Have you seen the one where the gang goes extreme home makeover?

Eh, I saw one episode, and it was a darker Seinfeld. I'm not so into that "it's about nothing" genre, though Seinfeld was so good that I could watch it anyway. I don't deny that Always Sunny is well made, but I really don't want to spend 20 minutes watching a couple try to capitalize on an infant they found in the dumpster, even if it's legitimately funny.

it's not about nothing! it's about a group of terrible people making bad choices and then living with the consequences. and it's often very funny! but yeah, definitely not for everyone, and i did find that it took a lot of time before i was interested in it (Pixel kept putting it on).

You might actually enjoy Dexter. It's very, very dark humor, but it's not gruesome or violent for violence's sake--and it really pushes the boundaries of crime/punishment/morality and all that. (If you're not familiar w/ the trope--it's a "noble" serial killer who channels his urge to kill into killing only the scum of society whom for one reason or another the have slipped through the cracks of the criminal system.) I found myself rooting for this sociopath in spite of myself--as it's very well done, effectively builds tension through the seasonal arcs, and makes FANTASTIC use of both the main cast and the guest stars (Jimmy Smits was in Season 3, and John Lithgow blew me out of the water in the 4th season).

I had issues w/ Big Bang Theory (generally dealing with the way the writers deal with women)--but it was okay for what it was.

I'm going to give Homeland a few more episodes, but thus far have found the writing to be somewhat shallow (but for the fact that one of the primary characters is schizophrenic therefor making me wonder whether the Arabic criminal masterminds really are criminal masterminds, I would've given up already--although by the same token, since so many procedurals have thrown out the Arabic terrorists as the red herring when the real enemy is home grown terrorists, perhaps having the enemy really be the Arabs in this case ISN'T cliched).

I've also been really surprised by Pan Am - it got dreadful reviews, but after my neighbors recommended it, I decided to give it a try, and I'm liking it so far. It's somehow managing to weave interpersonal drama into the historical background effectively, and thrown in a dash of international intrigue too!
