Problem with California is the inland region. They're very conservative, very cowboy regions with an awful lot of legislative representation relative to their populations. There are a lot of towns out there where the residents all have The Innsmouth Look. Barstow and the Inland Empire is serious Art Bell territory; places where they believe their towns are encircled by Pakistani UN Peacekeepers. That said, I should actually look at the county map of Prop Eight results to make sure this isn't just my regional bigotries playing out.
