Wow, I'm old.

Wait, it's over seven years ago that I got this LJ thing?

Today it occured to me that I can use the neat feature* of looking at my friends page in the past to go not just a couple weeks back, but like 5, 6, 7 years and see what it looked like then!

Only after trying it did it occur to me that what I was seeing was not what my friends page looked like then, but what my friends page would've looked like then if I had the same friends I have now! I don't think I've unfriended anyone, so the only "missing" entries would be from people who've bothered to delete or protect entries, or delete their journal. But wow are there a lot of "extra" entries that I never saw at the time because I didn't even know you. (Mostly from people I met through LJA, but also some of the rest of y'all.)

So, um, if I start randomly commenting on entries of yours from 2003ish, don't be alarmed. (And let me know now if you particularly don't want me to.) I probably won't actually leave any comments, but sometimes it's kind of tempting.

And wow, that was a LONG time ago.

There's some strange stuff in my earliest entries. I didn't know what to do back then. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this whole blog thing can be used for. When I was in grad school, it was a sort cheap way to vent my creative writing and essay spleen. Now, I just don't know. I'm interested more in doing longer form and more disciplined writing. I keep thinking that this medium is good for some kind of serial fiction, though. I think I'll have to come up with something less depressing than that zombie apocalypse thing. That was just bringing me down in a big and special way even if I was getting some good writing going.
