lazyweb: DVD authoring

Hey, internet. What's the best way to get downloaded .avi files onto something that will play on my set-top DVD player, using Windows? I'm 99% sure I'm not Divx-compatable, so I think I need to make actual DVDs. What's the easiest or most common Windows way of doing that these days?

oh and you can always look into SVCD or VCD - on linux that tends to require transforming the video to the right format first
