wheeee

Wii: $250
Wii Play (recommended by [livejournal.com profile] flyinbutrs): $50
2 nunchuck controllers: $40
1 classic controller: $20
Wii Fit: $90
A few virtual console games: $20
Tax: $30ish
Total: $500ish

Really? This is why I haven't gotten a current-generation console since SNES.

But it's still quite tempting. Quite. Especially with that upcoming stimulus check that I really should put into savings or donate to the Democrats or something, just to spite Bush.

Similar reasoning why [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark and I aren't getting an XBox 360 for Rock Band, except that there's not even other games on the XBox that tempt us. However, $250 for the Wii seems very reasonably priced now, considering inflation and all, as to what I paid for the PS2 back in 2002 ($250 plus Final Fantasy X), and to what prices I remember seeing video game systems priced for throughout the nineties (in the $150-$250 range).

The games are definitely more expensive, though they're prices I've come to expect since most of the games I've bought in the past have been pricey RPGs. For the entertainment value, though, even though the games I've bought for the Wii aren't RPGs so much as group fun, still worth it. And now that Rock Band will be on the Wii, there's zero reason for Hyoun and I to be tempted by the XBox.

Edit: Also, to be fair, you're including the most expensive game available for the Wii right now, with extra add-on controller bits that are only, so far, good for that one game. And driving your package price up 20%. ;) You can still get a good workout with the bundled Wii Sports!

Also also, tossing my recommendation into the ring, the Raving Rabbids game is an excuse for many awesome minigames that take real advantage of the Wii controller flexibility. Waving your controller around in the air like a lasso! Using the Nunchuk and controller as your arms pump back and forth in a sprinting motion! Drawing with the controller! I haven't gotten the sequel yet, but it's on my list. :)
