I've just decided that I want to learn to play the uilleann pipes.

It's rather good for my wallet that I usually change my mind about this sort of thing within a day or two. In this case, that's also good for my relationship with my roommate and everyone else who lives within a two-block radius.

What richardf8 up there said -- I vaguely remember hearing that most people buy a chanter, learn the basics, and then upgrade ;)
