Holy crap, did someone say that massage is supposed to be relaxing? Just had my first massage appointment at the chiropractor's, and that was one of the most stressful half-hours I've had in recent memory. See, any time the massage guy (what's the right term for him?) poked and prodded my rib near where my problems are, I realized just how sensitive I am there. And how naturally protective I am of that area, perhaps even more so than I am with an area that guys are traditionally protective of. But sometimes he was holding my arm out or up or something, thus thwarting my protection instincts, and I couldn't do anything but clench my teeth and wince a lot. It was just as challenging mentally as it was physically.

But you know what? If it helps me get better finally, I'll do this every week for as long as he damn well wants.

there's a HUGE difference between a relaxing massage and a theraputic massage. i used to be almost in tears at the end of my sessions. OW. :( i feel you. *comforts* how about a hot shower?

At my chiropractor they're called massage therapists.

I get a deep-tissue massage every time I go to to the chiropractor (twice a week) before my adjustment. The massage helps loosen up the muscles to make the adjustment easier to do, I believe.

It totally depends on who the massage therapist is as to whether it's painful for me or not. Today a new girl did it and it was pretty painful at times. It's interesting how all their techniques differ. It is supposed to be somewhat painful, but a good painful. Since you said you felt better afterwards, it was a good painful. If you're sore afterwards it was probably too rough of a massage.

I've noticed your entries about the chiropractor but I keep forgetting to comment. I'm totally in love with going to the chiropractor now, heh. I'm at the point where stuff is moving, which is causing weird random soreness and cracking sounds, but I'm told that it's normal and is a good sign, and as things stabilize it'll get better.
