I seriously fucking loathe talking on the phone, especially cell-phones, unless I need to make plans or tell someone really important information. As soon as someone starts with the "So how are you?" stuff I try to drop as many hints as possible that it's time to hang up. It's strange, because I really enjoy talking online and in person.
a) I chat with my parents and grandparents on occasion to catch up with them and reassure Mom that I'm not dead in a ditch somewhere. I don't even like talking to the boyfriend on the phone - our best phone convo takes five seconds and consists of "Hey baby, it's me, do you want me to bring you a cup of coffee?" "Hell yeah I want a cup of coffee!" "Okay, see you soon, bye." b) Required for work, especially given the frequency with which I'm travelling to other branches these days c) I hate talking on the phone for the most part. The best conversation is a brief one, and I fucking loathe voicemail.
You completely missed where I would place me. I'm somewhere between:
Just chatting is fine for a select few people, on occasion, but otherwise it's just a utility thing.
and
I talk on the phone just to chat almost every day, up to a half hour each day.
I would describe it as "I have no deep attachment to talking to people on the phone, but I'm not against it either. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't." And of course there are the 1-2 hour long phonecalls I have with my parents, but they get that right because they're 3000 miles away.
And as for talking to my S-O, he's the last person I'd get into a long phone conversation with. but I see him every day, so why would I want to talk on the phone with him?
