Music Meme

EDIT: Answers posted and comments below are now unscreened.

Okay, FINE. I'll do the music meme.

Here are lyrics from 25 songs that I got quasi-pseudo-randomly from my music collection. The quoted lyrics are always the first ones of the song that don't give away the title. Guess the artist and the song. Comments screened; Google is cheating. Any artist that did the song counts as full credit.

No duplicate artists here. Punctuation may or may not have been changed. And, if it helps somehow, much of my music collection is full albums.

1. My lips are shaking my nails are bit off. Been a month since I've heard myself talk.
2. I walked down the hall into your room where I could smell you, and I shouldn't be here without permission
3. Woke up quick at about noon, just thought that I had to be in Compton soon
4. As I got hit by a car there was a message for me
5. Mama, take this badge from me. I can't use it anymore.
6. I don't feel as if I know you. You take up all my time. The days are long and the night will throw you away 'cause the sun don't shine.
7. It was a cold night and the snow lay low. I pulled my coat tight against the falling down.
8. It's quiet now, and what it brings is everything. Comes calling back a brilliant night; I'm still awake.
9. Summer stretching on the grass, summer dresses pass. In the shade of a willow tree creeps a crawling over me.
10. I heard there was a secret chord.
11. Twenty-five years and my life is still trying to get up that great big hill of hope for a destination.
12. Mama, they try and break me. The window burns to light the way back home.
13. Into the distance, a ribbon of black stretched to the point of no turning back.
14. Perhaps I am a miscreation, No one knows the truth, There is no future here.
15. One dream, one soul, one prize, One goal.
16. Speak to me in a language I can hear. Humour me before I have to go.
17. Message to all my friends: I've fallen down again. Please send help; please send your horses and your men.
18. Want to keep your dream alive? Can I keep it with mine?
19. The skys were pure and the fields were green, and the sun was brighter than it's ever been. When I grew up with my best friend Kenny, we were close as any brothers that you ever knew.
20. Finds a convenient streetlight, steps out of the shade, says something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"
21. "Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong, 'cause it is my favorite holiday.
22. Sometimes I feel like I am drunk behind the wheel, the wheel of possibility, however it may roll.
23. I know that I should think about giving, and think about helping out, and think about, think about living. But I can't seem to rescue myself.
24. There's travel in your future when your toungue freezes to the back of a speeding bus.
25. Just before our love got lost, you said I am as constant as a northern star.

[identity profile] meganruth4.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Megan guessed the Joni Mitchell (25) I only knew two others:
10. Hallelujah, Leonard Cohen
24. Horoscope, "Weird" Al Yankovich

Charley

[identity profile] burr86.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
10. Hallelujah - Whichever version you have. :)
15. U2 - One

[identity profile] sleepsong.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't looked at anybody's answers yet (I left this open this morning before work when nobody had commented yet and I'm refusing to look until I'm done), so I'm sorry if there are any repeats...

2. "Your House" - Alanis Morissette
5. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" - whatever cover you're listening to, although the original was Bob Dylan
11. That song with the Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey-eeeeeeeeeeeeeey-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey-ey-ey...
14. "Are You Out There?" - Dar Williams
24. "Your Horoscope" - Weird Al
25. "A Case Of You" - Joni Mitchell

[identity profile] sleepsong.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's bugging the hell out of me that I can hear that one song in my head, but I don't remember the title or who sang it. I can even see the music video!

[identity profile] ldy.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi there! Saw you a couple of times in Marn's journal, thought I'd stop by :)

5. Knocking on Heaven's Door (sheesh, I _think_ Dylan wrote it... but I more often associate it with the Dead, Clapton and Guns 'n Roses)
10. Hallelujah (I think of Jeff Buckley's version, but there are many)
11. What's Going On. Artist is escaping me atm.
13. Pink Floyd, Learning to Fly. I did a modern dance project to this, once.
15. Queen. Something about Magic? I've forgotten the exact title, I'm afraid. Wait-- Some Kind of Magic? Maybe?
20. Dire Straits, oh, heck. Romeo and Juliet? Something about them, anyway!
21. Christmas Rapping (hee, one of my favourite holiday songs) I'm spacing on the artist, but I know it.
25. Constantly in the dark? Where's that at? If you need me I'll be in the bar ;) Joni Mitchell. Now I've got A Case of You stuck in my head. It's replacing Howard the Duck, so that's OK.

Heh. I just googled a couple of the ones that sounded familiar, but that I just couldn't place, and was rather impressed to see this actual entry as google's #5 for "I had to be in compton soon." Google loses no time!

Oh, and I can't believe I didn't get #24.

[identity profile] thornmallow.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
10. Hallelujah (lots of people have covered this, I'm thinking of Rufus Wainwright atm)
21. Christmas Wrapping, The Waitresses
24. Horoscope (for today), Weird Al

[identity profile] ruthonfire.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
10 is a gimme - jeff buckley, rufus wainwright, etc, etc, a jewish guy who lives three blocks from me in montreal - hallelujah
20 - romeo and juliet - dire straits or indigo girls?
25 - joni mitchell - a case of you

[identity profile] ruthonfire.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
i know i'm right, i just want to know which ones. please tell me it's the original on #10 because that dude cannot sing

I suck

[identity profile] bz-mahrabu.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
All I know is #10 (Leonard Cohen, Halleluyah). I'm guessing Pearl Jam for all the rest.

[identity profile] coralrockstar.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
6 is by oasis... though i'm not completely sure which song... roll with it? or hey now? argh, i can hear the melody in my head, but i can't connect it to the chorus that would tell me the title...

7 is the crane wife part 1 by the decemberists

10 is hallelujah, but i don't know if you're listening to leonard cohen, rufus wainwright, jeff buckley, or someone else who covered it... :)

that was amusing and i have every intention of doing the same.

5. Knockin' on heaven's door (Dylan)
10. Halleluyah (Cohen, not Jeff Buckley or Bono or Rufus Wainwright)
20. Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straits)

I can't say I recognized many, but I can say they're all favorites.
