TS Alpha!
Tropical Storm Alpha has formed! We've run out of letters to name storms in the conventional way, so we're going to use Greek letters until this record-breaking Atlantic tropical season has ended.
BZ wonders whether, if Alpha makes landfall as a serious storm, they will retire the name. If there are 22 named storms again next year, will they jump right from the W name (William) to Beta?
(disclaimer: Yes, I know storms are dangerous and have the potential to cause lots of damage and loss of life. I still find weather neat anyway. Sorry.)

It's an interesting dilema you mentioned. Maybe they'll switch to other A first letters? Valerie, William, Alef, Beta...?
