Fly, Eagles, fly?

In a battle down to the wire, former champion Bill "El Wingador" Simmons defeated returning champion 100-pound Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas this morning to win the 13th annual Wing Bowl in South Philly. Philly.com was there.

Wing Bowl started as a goofy radio station promotion. It's held in the Wachovia Center in the sports complex in South Philly, and originally, the only time a radio station could afford to rent out the place for a few hours was early on a weekday morning.

Now it's a quite serious and lucrative, but still goofy, radio station promotion. And it's still early in the morning. It was 6am-10am this year. Doors were supposed to open at 5am, but due to the crowds, they opened at 3am and closed before 6. Good thing I didn't go, because I was planning to just sneak in around then.

Competitive eating, a frat party atmosphere, a huge Eagles rally, and the "Wingette" girls, all before most people have finished their morning coffee? I love this city. I'm so going next year.

I cant believe it

I was totally backing The Beast From the East. This means El Wingador has won a record 5 (or is it 4) times!
