Yeah. It varies by committee or by crew. My particular crew has the same number of people as shifts per day, and every day each shift is filled by one person. My crew chief said that he'd be unwilling to change it up and complicate the scheduling as a result, and that the accommodation he'd be willing to make is the part about me arriving late. On other crews (which I'd like less for other reasons), what you say might work.
