Holiday fun

The morning after Thanksgiving, per my tradition, I'm headed out to the King of Prussia mall! Anyone want to go with me?

Christmas Eve, I'm thinking of driving out to Atlantic City and spending a couple of hours at a casino or two! Anyone want to go with me?

New Years Eve, They Might Be Giants are playing two concerts in Philly! The first will probably leave you enough time to get to a New Years party elsewhere in the city, and the second is through midnight and New Years itself. I'm not sure which I'm going to, or maybe even both; but probably just the first. Anyone want to go with me?

Our mall here opens at midnight. I can't decide if I want to go then or not. I can't figure out if it'll be more of a zoo (easier to stay up than get up at 3 am) or less of one (people would rather just do the "traditional" thing and get up at 4 am 3 am 2 am... it gets earlier every year, what time IS it these days for the Black Friday sales???

Y'know, I've never actually done the Black Friday thing. This year might be a great year to try given the desperateness of the retailers.

My mall doesn't open until 6 (though the nearby Best Buy etc. almost definitely open earlier). But I've never gone that early, except for last year when I had to go to work later that day. Usually I get there around 9. After all, my goal is mainly to revel in the craziness of the surrounding crowd; I don't usually buy all that much...

I imagine midnight will be crazier than a 4am or 5am opening would be, but less than a 6am. Wild guess. (Circuit City used to do 10pm-midnight on Thanksgiving Day in addition to an early Friday opening. Interesting tradition; I'm a bit sad it didn't catch on. Though it probably sucked for the employees, unless they had a sleepover in the store or something.)

I generally don't (ergo while I'll be watching the inauguration from the comfort of my living room rather than in person), but my desire to purchase really good presents at really low prices might trump my general misanthropy.

Yeah, I just go because I like the crazy crowds. My family thinks I'm nuts. My shopping's actually all done.

There's one store that's open here ON Thanksgiving and my brother and I always go while the turkey is cooking. We never really buy much, it's just fun to go. Some people go to the movies on Thanksgiving, we go to this crazy little store.

If you aren't into really insane crowds of really insane people all being pushy and obnoxious, then the awesome deals probably won't be worth it. Also, you have to be good at being obnoxious and pushy back, if there's something you really want to get your hands on and someone's in the way. People tend to stand around like idiot deers in idiot lights and it becomes this insane obstacle course of wide-eyed idiots to get to anything.

Now that all sounds horrible, but it's terribly amusing and kind of fun, if it's your thing.

If you're just going out for the deals, I'd recommend not going. I absolutely guarantee there will be more really awesome deals between Black Friday and Christmas. Also, online shopping is awesome. I about wore out my Amazon Prime membership the last few weeks on awesome deals from Amazon. My shopping is done.

Ooh, awesome! I usually drive into the mall around 9 (flexible), and leave around 2 (less flexible, due to how early sundown is this time of year). What's your schedule like?

Schedule? Is that one of those things where you have a plan ahead of time?

Basically, I won't really know details until I get to my parents house tomorrow and figure out plans for the weekend with them.

I'll let you know. I slept way in on Friday anyway due to staying up late with family, so we didn't end up doing the mall thing.
