Hmmm, that's an interesting part of the equation I'd not considered that much. Though I could argue that there are some ways to structure even so you don't interact with other genders -- vis-a-vis choosing a profession where one or the other gender is not widely represented and choosing hobbies with a similarly low representation of one or the other gender.
It's also interesting to see push-back and pull-back between ending racism and sexism. Nothing surprised me more than to see the derision with which the women's suffrage movement greeted the voting rights act which granted African American men the right to vote while still denying it to women.
