the LJ news

LJ just eliminated the basic (free and not-ad-supported) account type going forward. And didn't announce it in their news post.

If you hate this change, rather than complaining to the support volunteers and employees who mostly also hate this change, contact the company directly.

Sigh.

(If you want to read more, this comment thread and this post and perhaps stuff in this community are good places to start.)

Wow...Didn't see this coming. Oh wait...Yes I did. Oh well, time to move on to another blogging system

Even though replying to my own comment is tacky, it appears that my account will not be changed, and it will remain ad-free...*whew*. That was a close one

yeah, i gave this up for dead at the sale. it's a shame, because it's so convenient for keeping tabs on so many of my friends, but clearly they don't really care all that much about the end user anymore.

Since this doesn't apply retroactively, this means I'm not jumping ship just yet. However, if or when these new guys DO apply advertising and site design changes to LJ, then I'm outta here faster than you can say "jumped the shark like MySpace."

Is this all about the principle of the thing or the ads themselves, because adblock is my best friend. Use that to block the ads in protest!
