That said, I'm completely incapable of properly parallel parking. I took my road test 3 counties away so I could take it in a town that had nothing but pull-in slanted parking. To this day I'll drive around endlessly looking for an end spot or pay to park in a lot rather than parallel park. I've been driving over a decade, have had multiple lessons from both friends and professionals concentrating on it -- I just seem incapable of doing it.
that's pretty amazing. i'd have to say i'm ridiculously impressed.
then again, no one here can parallel park. it's not in the driving test. i taught myself, because you kinda have to know how in tallahassee (at least, if you want to park in more than 50% of the available spaces), and the first time i did it well (with a lot of space, but still did it), i pulled out my camera and sent a picture to my mom ;)
Bloody Philadelphians. I am never, never stopping in your mad city. I'll drive through it, for all the risk to life and limb that comprises... but never stop there.
Ha, indeed. There are places I know better than to attempt to rent a car and drive, and most of the cities out east are ones. Pittsburgh I can survive, since I had to for work, but I've also got a bunch of places I can park there. Boston terrifies me, and terrified me every time I visited -- even when I went to stay with friends in Somerville, I'd sometimes wind up parking blocks away and having to hike lest I have to parallel park.

I learned to parallel park for my driving test 6 years ago, and have barely done it since, so my skills are in a sorry state.

"like a glove"
how many times did you shift from forward to reverse? that's gotta be less than a foot of clearance in sum...
