So last night and today was the day of Shavuot, probably my favorite Jewish holiday. On the surface, there's no good reason for that. As my rabbi pointed out last night at about 10:30, there was originally very little substance to the holiday. There are no commandments associated with it from the Torah that apply today. No booths to build or bread to burn or expiation to be made or fasting to be done. Just don't work, and observe the holiday.
Lots of customs and traditions have been developed for it, though. ( Customs, and more! )
